Is it therapy or ABA?

No. Behavioral Respite is a respite service, not therapy, ABA, or clinical treatment. Support professionals follow the strategies already in place and do not write or change behavior plans.

Can it be paid for through the Self Determination Program?

Yes. When Behavioral Respite is part of the spending plan, bttr. bills through the participant's FMS, and only what is approved.

How does bttr. learn the participant's strategies?

Before the first session, bttr. meets with the participant and family, and with the team's providers when the family chooses, to learn routines, preferences, triggers, calming strategies, and communication supports. Those strategies are shared with the assigned support professional.

Who provides the respite?

A consistent support professional chosen with the participant, not for them, prepared on the participant's strategies, and introduced before the first session.

Which regional centers does bttr. work with?

What if something difficult happens during a session?

The support professional follows the strategies the team has shared, keeps the family informed, and documents what happened in the session notes. bttr. follows regional center incident reporting requirements when they apply.

Can it be combined with other services?

Yes. Many plans combine services such as In Home Respite, Personal Attendant Services, or Independent Living Skills. bttr. delivers them as one team, with one plan and one point of contact.
